U.S. Citizen

  1. A visa is not required for U.S. passport holders who wish to stay in Japan up to 90 days for the purpose of non-paid activities* such as sightseeing, visiting relatives or friends, business meetings, amateur participation in athletic meetings, attending a conference, etc.
    *Please note that U.S. citizens require visas when traveling to Japan for news/media related activities, attending depositions taken by U.S. Consul, or for U.S. Federal Government employees on official business or transit to/from official mission.
  2. If you wish to enter Japan for long-term stay (more than 90 days) or for paid activities, you must apply for an appropriate visa. See Work/Long-term Stay Visa page
  3. No visa fee is required for U.S. citizens
