eVISA: Online Application

(Note) Applications submitted until 23:59 on June 16, eVISA (online visa) are reviewed by the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles. Currently, due to the high volue of eVISA applications, processing time in Los Angeles at least 2 weeks or more. Our consulate have no access to check your applications status. Please contact the Consulate-General of Japan in Los Angeles directly if you have any questions about your applications.
 

JAPAN eVISA  Apply for a visa online without visiting a consulate


Eligibility

You must meet ALL of the following requirements:
  • You have valid US Permanent Residence Card (Green Card) or hold a valid US Visa (NOT a temporary visitor such as ESTA, B1/B2 visa holders)
  • You currently live in our jurisdiction
  • The purpose of your visit to Japan is tourism ONLY for less than 90 days.
 

Visa category

Single-entry Tourism VISA (stay of more than 24 hours, up to 90 days)
The following purposes travelers are NOT ELIGIBLE for eVISA:
- Visiting relatives/friends - Business trips/conference/meeting
- Transit (any stay of less than 24 hours)
- Internship
- Study
- Cruise
- Entering Japan more than once(Double or multiple-entry)
- Travel document, official passport, or diplomatic passport holder

When to apply

Please apply early to allow for processing, as times may be longer during peak and holiday periods.
The earliest you can apply is 3 months before your planned travel date to Japan.

 

Processing time

The visa approval process takes a AT LEAST 5 BUSINESS DAYS counting from the next business day after the complete application is submitted.
OUR OFFICE DOES NOT PROVIDE EXPEDITED SERVICE. NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

No status check

We do NOT accept any inquiries about the status of your applications.
You can check your visa application status through your eVISA application account by clicking on "Visa application list."

STEP 1
Prepare Documents
Please read the Checklist for required documents
Please prepare all the required documents before you start your application

If any documents are missing/insufficient, your visa application will be returned and canceled without processing. It could lead to a delay which may affect your travel plan. Please make sure to read the checklist carefully.

STEP 2
Apply eVISA
 
Create an eVISA account and apply for a visa online.

STEP 3
Review by Consulate
The visa review process takes AT LEAST 5 BUSINESS DAYS counting from the next business day after the complete application is submitted.

We do NOT accept any inquiries about the status of your visa applications.
You can check your visa application status through your eVISA account by clicking on "Visa application list."

If your application is returned/canceled, you will receive an email instructions on how to proceed. Do not upload the missing documents to the canceled application.  
STEP 4
Pay VISA fee
After the review process, you will be contacted by email.
If applicable, please register your credit card details on the designated website.

Note

For requesting withdrawal of your eVISA application:

If you have already submitted an eVISA application and have decided to apply by mail or drop-off instead, Please withdraw your eVISA application online first before re-applying by mail or drop-off to avoid delays during visa application processing.

If you wish to withdraw, but are unable to do so in the system on your own, please email to sashou@sr.mofa.go.jp with the following information: (1)Name (2)Date of Birth (3)Receipt Number (4)Brief reason for withdrawing your application.
